Top Five Things To Do During the NBA All Star Break

It’s the NBA All Star Break! That means a full week of little to no NBA action. Sure, we can watch the futures game and the All Star game itself, but there is little for DFS purposes. I liked what DraftKings did last year better. They made a tournament out of the Futures game and the NBA All Star combined. This year they decided to do a separate “showdown” for each game.

The showdown games for the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl didn’t really work for me, but the ones for the NBA are decent. Still, this may be a time to take some time off from the daily or season long NBA grind, whatever your choice may  be. Here are some suggestions to help you pass the time!

5. Spend time with your significant other:

The DFS grind take a whole lot of research. I am usually up most of the night doing research for my own lineups and for the articles I post. I feel like a slacker not doing all of that research. However, I am up earlier, so the wife appreciates that. For now. I’ll keep you posted!

4. Branch out:

Sites like DraftKings offer a vast array of DFS games. Just because the NBA is on break doesn’t mean nothing else is going on! Our Matt Rogers  gives you all you need to know if you are looking to play some NHL while the NBA is on break. DraftKings also has contests for the EPL, which David Gate brings to you every weekend. DraftKings also offers tournaments for League of Legends, NASCAR, MMA, and the PGA tour. Today is the Daytona 500, or the Super Bowl of NASCAR racing. It could be a good time to try out NASCAR on DraftKings. The best part is that DraftKings has late swap on the NHL! What a concept! I’ll bet that would work just as well on the NBA! If you have never tried DraftKings before, here is a referral link to help you get started. It is good for 25% of your initial deposit paid out in $1 intervals as you play on the site.

3. Draft your baseball team:

I have a couple of leagues that do draft this early. Hey, everyone is at the same disadvantage. I really only recommend this for dynasty and deep keeper leagues where it really doesn’t matter if you draft a young backup. You’ll be hanging onto him anyway. If you are against drafting this early, it’s not to soon to start getting your research lined up. Baseball is for grinders. That is right up our alley! A little research now, adjusted as Spring Training goes along, could help you out big on draft day!

2. Watch the Olympics:

Okay, so this is not something you can do every year, but that is all the more reason to watch it! Be a patriot for two weeks. Here you have athletes from around the world that put in four years of hard work, often for one or two races. The speed skater that wipes out during qualifying? He or she doesn’t get another shot for four long years! That is all the drama you will ever need, and much better than anything the news gives you.

1. Send a trade offer to everyone in your league:

If you are in multiple leagues like I am, this can be a little tedious. However, there is a good reason to do this. First off, the NBA All Star break is a great time to slow down and take a look at the standings. In points leagues, you can find what you need (points) just about anywhere. It is far more important in roto leagues to identify what you need for the stretch run and go get it.

There is another reason I do this, and not just to be annoying. Most owners will respond, but if you are LM in a league that isn’t always that active, this is a good way to find out who is still paying attention. Honestly, most owners will counter, and this could be the start of some lucrative trade talks. If you are the LM of a league, it’s not a bad idea to set up a league chat for trade talks.

I am in several leagues, including a 20 team points league. No trade in that league is too small. Sending regular offers is a great way to get to know the people in your league, and a great way to do your part to keep the league active. Be careful though. Some owners act like you ran over their dog if you start off with a lowball offer.
