17. Detroit Pistons
For all of the GFGS teams, the Pistons are here to teach you a lesson. As discussed previously in the Knicks section, Detroit struggle with straightforward and bright colors, a problem accentuated by their run-of-the-mill designs and heavy white outlining. But their City edition set is clean, good-looking and makes sense, something that can’t be said for some others.
It is meant to symbolize the city’s blue-collar roots in the motor industry — complete with the Motor City nickname across the front — and it pulls it off, as the dark blue and gray fit that aesthetic well.
An unfortunate red advertisement hurts, but the design is mostly solid, and it is much cleaner than the Pistons’ other uniforms, one of which is light gray. It’s possible I am underrating these a bit, although the Grizzlies bested them in the cultural significance category.
