Ranking and analyzing all 30 NBA City edition uniforms
15. Atlanta Hawks
In a city that has embraced hip-hop culture, the Hawks have the NBA’s most outlandish uniforms. After years of standard navy and red (a solid set, mind you), they chose a slick neon green-accented red and black scheme, with a unique pattern on the jersey resembling bird feathers and new-age logos and lettering. They took a step beyond modern.
It is executed well. Their first three jerseys are white, black and red, and last year, they even mix and matched a little bit, with okay results. The new color scheme is rare, making it all the more effective.
The City edition jerseys are black, designed in part by rapper Jeezy. In contrast to the regular black away uniforms, they do not prominently feature the Hawk pattern, and go for a cleaner look without red. The typeface across the front, reading “Atlanta,” is a newer, futuristic front, and a thin green stripe runs from the top left shoulder down into the outline of the side panels, loosely resembling their classic Dominique Hawkins-era unis.
They could be better. But they provide some contrast to the regular set, and it could be a lot worse: They could have worn all neon green.
