14. New Orleans Pelicans

New Orleans have some funky uniforms, and we’re not just talking about these Mardi Gras jerseys. Their primary colors include navy blue, red and Vegas gold, with red as a light accent color on the home and away but a base color on the Statement alternates. That is weird distribution of an unusual color set, and it only gets weirder when you add the purple, yellow and green City edition.

Except in special circumstances, red should not be used as a third or fourth color due to its dominant nature. The Vegas Golden Knights made that mistake as well, and it is the Pelicans’ biggest issue. Turning red into a third alternate color is a gaffe that compounds it. Partly as a result, New Orleans do not have a good set; they should go back to what they wore from 2002-05.

But the City edition is solid enough, and very representative of the city’s Mardi Gras culture. It is designed pretty well and showcases the colors well, even if they don’t go very well together. The problem is the uneven numbers on the front and back, which only detracts from the design.
