7. Golden State Warriors

When I first saw these Golden State City edition set, I was skeptical. My initial reaction consisted of the same criticism I made of the Pelicans’ main unis: Red should not be used as an accent color. This is especially true for a team with such defined colors as the Warriors, and on a yellow jersey that could have been something like this. Pure red and yellow is a bad color scheme.

But I’ve come around on these. I have begun to take this base-yellow, navy and red-accented color scheme as its own identity, rather than seeing red as the ruiner of a yellow and blue set. It fits much better that way.

These colors are not used together often in American sports; they are most commonly known as the flag colors of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. But they work well for Golden State as an alternate look, combining Chinese cultural recognition and some less gaudy elements of their 2000s look. They are designed almost flawlessly, with an interesting reappropriation of their beautiful current logo and side panels that look as good as any in the league. The light blue touch on the shorts, a nod to the city’s surrounding water, is cool.

Championship uniforms for a championship team.
