3. Miami Heat

Now THIS is how you fauxback to the 80s and 90s. The Heat made a splash with their City editions, going full Miami with a black-accented pink and light blue color scheme and a throwback-style design. The font and color shadowing creates the throwback effect, and the color scheme (obviously not something we see often) is quintessential Miami. This is the most universally-loved uniform I’ve seen in a while, and for good reason.

They should keep this as the alternate for years to come. They shouldn’t, however, move away from red and black as their primary colors. Pink and light blue looks cool here, but there is a reason no other team in pro sports uses these colors. This will look better as an alternate, not an every-game uniform.

Miami should update their regular set, though. The white home, black road, red alternate combo has become stale without design elements that keep them relevant, and their specific red could be sharpened a bit. They’ve been wearing essentially the same uniforms since 1999, and if you don’t have an iconic set, you need to update sooner than that. Portland could learn a similar lesson.

Nevertheless, Nike hit a home run with these City editions.
