Bond 25 might have found its director, as Danny Boyle seems to finally be making the rounds.

Sometimes all it takes for a good thing to come around is some patience. For Acamdey Award-winning director Danny Boyle, his chance to direct a James Bond film — and for the film franchise to find one of its most unique voices– time might have been all that was needed to make a marriage happen.

While hardly an official confirmation, Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider is reporting that Boyle is being eyed to direct the upcoming 25th James Bond film, which is set to be Daniel Craig’s last outing. Boyle has been the mind behind everything from the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire to both Trainspotting  films.

This is a long time coming, as Boyle has been rumored to be directing a Bond flick before. In 2012, ahead of what would become Skyfall, Boyle was reportedly in talks to direct Craig’s third outing but it ended up being a false flag.

Boyle was indeed in talks to direct Bond — and eventually did — a part of the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. Sam Mendes instead stepped behind the camera and directed the next two Bond films that followed.

Now that the director chair is vacant, it’s not surprising to hear Boyle’s name pop up. He’s one of the most prolific British filmmakers working today and has the chops to add his own flare to the characters while also toeing the line of tradition.

With Craig exiting on Bond 25, there’s a chance that Boyle sticks around and helps transition the franchise into its next era. If this was a case where the franchise was starting new with the next film, Boyle would be an even better choice; if for nothing other than the immediacy to which the Ewan McGregor rumors would kick in. Even without his longtime collaborator, McGregor was being rumored to be Bond but with Boyle behind the camera, it makes even more sense.

It’s Craig’s role for at least one more film, and he can do much worse than Boyle as the director who sees him out.
