2018 NFL Mock Draft: Browns land Baker Mayfield
By Conor Dorney
Fresh off breaking the longest postseason drought in the NFL, the Buffalo Bills head into the 2018 Draft with a great deal of optimism surrounding the franchise. Having two selections in the first round is a plus, but the Bills enjoy the added bonus of having them back-to-back. Here, they use their first of two consecutive picks on Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst.
Hurst is one of the most disruptive interior players in the class and despite being a bit undersized at 6-foot-2 and, 282 pounds, finished each of his final two seasons as a Wolverine with double-digit tackles for loss and 5.0+ sacks.
Hurst’s short area quickness is the first thing that jumps out on film and has a penchant for timing the snap just right. He’s the type of player that creates havoc in the backfield immediately and still possesses the athleticism to re-direct his momentum when needed.
His lack of ideal size for the position will be the biggest knock to his draft stock going forward but when put in the right system, Hurst could make an immediate impact as a rotational interior pass rusher. After trading Marcell Dareus to Jacksonville midseason in 2017, the Bills would be thrilled to land an interior talent like Hurst’s with the 21st pick in the draft.
