. QB. Wyoming. Josh Allen. 6. player. 30

The Jets are one of many teams in need of a quarterback this offseason and with the sixth overall pick, they land talented Wyoming gunslinger Josh Allen.

I’ve mentioned before that Allen is one of the most volatile quarterback prospects in this entire class and he still has a lot of convincing left to do to prove he’s worthy of a top ten selection. He has the best arm strength of any quarterback in the 2018 Draft and proved it during an outstanding week of practice at the Senior Bowl. Allen also possesses great size and athleticism and can use his legs to get a first down when he needs to.

With that being said, Allen remains very raw as a quarterback prospect, with the main problem being his inconsistent accuracy. One minute, he’s dropping the ball in the bucket on a go route and then next, he’s airmailing a seemingly easy completion.

Allen was put in a difficult position with the amount of talent that they Wyoming offense lost to the NFL after the 2016 season, but it doesn’t entirely excuse some of his flaws. He won’t be able to get away with the “Yakety Sax” scrambles in the NFL, so he’s going to have to get much more comfortable in the pocket and going through his progressions.

From a ceiling standpoint, Allen may very well have the highest of any quarterback in this class but he’s definitely a long-term project. If the Jets can be patient and avoid throwing him into the fire right away, they’ll have gotten themselves a franchise quarterback with this pick.
