3. Defensive Tackle

The Chargers are not especially weak at defensive tackle. Corey Liuget is a quality player, but he isn’t producing up to the massive contract he recently received. Los Angeles might ask him to restructure, but probably will just keep the situation as-is. But with as much attention and as disruptive as Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram are, someone with Liuget’s pedigree should be bringing more to the table. While Liuget is the upfield penetrator, Brandon Mebane is much more in the nose tackle mold.

At 32-years-old, Mebane showed his age in 2017. Darius Philon and Damion Square also contributed last year, but neither stood out. They could factor in for depth though this year. Just think what this defense could become with a mismatch in their favor on the interior of Los Angeles’ defensive line.

There are a few names in free agency that would provide an obvious upgrade, but the Chargers might find a better long-term talent in the first round of the draft.
