4. Help Dak Prescott

The Cowboys may have found their diamond in the rough, and franchise quarterback with fourth-round pick, Dak Prescott. His rookie season was one of the best in NFL history and the team was excited about his prospects moving forward. In 2017, he was still a solid player, but no where near the dynamic quarterback he showed in 2016.

Now, the question will remain, was his regression due to who he truly is as a player or the pieces around him? Dallas had the ideal situation for almost any quarterback in Prescott’s rookie year. There was Ezekiel Elliott, the top-five pick at running back, behind him. Dallas sported perhaps the NFL’s best offensive line. Dez Bryant and the rest of the Cowboys’ pass catchers were a dependable unit.

In 2017, things were not so ideal. Dallas lost one of their pieces along the offensive line and watched as Tyron Smith struggled with injuries. Elliott was lost for six games midseason due to a suspension. The receiving corps looked like they lost a step and were not as dynamic. His reliable target, Cole Beasley looked like a shell of himself.

The goal of this offseason needs to be to figure out if Prescott is the answer going forward. That means they must put him in an ideal situation to do so. That means addressing the receivers and offensive line during the draft or free agency. Couple that with the return of Elliott and a healthy Smith and Prescott could bounce back.
