The Magic are looking to end the season on a high note. The Knicks? They just want to see the season end.

When Kristaps Pozingis went down for the season with an ACL tear, everyone knew that the New York Knicks (23-36) season would be over.

They have lived up to their new prophecy.

Before Pozingis went down, the Knicks were so bullish about their playoff chances, that for the first time in what seemed like forever, they were talking about being buyers at the NBA trade deadline. Once Pozingis went down in a home loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, all of that changed. The Knicks went from thinking about playoffs to thinking about next year, as their team is just not as talented without their star to carry them to a promised land they haven’t seen in years.

While New York is waiting for this nightmare to end, the Orlando Magic (18-39) are looking for a brighter end to theirs.

After starting out as one of the surprise teams in the NBA, the injury bug hit Orlando, hard. At times, they’ve loss Nikola Vucevic, Terrance Ross, Aaron Gordon, and their star rookie Jonathan Issac to injury, which has made the job even tougher for Frank Vogel.

On the day of the trade deadline, the Magic’s front office decided to chart a brand new course, starting with dealing Elfrid Payton to the Phoenix Suns basically for scraps. The Magic have played better the past month-and-a-half, thanks in part to the emergence of Mario Hezonja, and now, Orlando will get much-needed reinforcements with the return of Gordon and Vucevic from injury.
