Philadelphia Eagles: 5 offseason needs
4. Backup quarterback
With the 10th biggest cap hit on the roster next season, the Eagles simply can’t afford not to trade Nick Foles. Philly would save $7.6 million on the cap by moving him and if they could pick up a Day 2 pick (or two) for him, that would be an enormous boost for them.
Don’t believe anyone who says they wouldn’t or shouldn’t trade him. Or the Eagles should only trade him for two first-round picks. They’re living in the sunken place.
Do the Eagles need a quality backup behind Carson Wentz who is coming off major knee surgery? Absolutely, 100% yes. Does it have to be Nick Foles and his enormous (for a backup) contract? No way.
And frankly, the Eagles can’t afford it to be. There are guys on the market who can come in and start a few games if Wentz isn’t ready to go Week 1 this September. Trust the coach who already proved he can win with a backup and have faith your superstar QB can rack up a bunch of wins once he gets back.
