Round 2 – Pick 34

Chukwuma Okorafor, T, Western Michigan

After selecting the quarterback in the first round, it is time to protect whoever is under center for this team. Erick Flowers is not the answer at left tackle. His play improved this season but he is still a below-average tackle who has also struggled with attitude issues as of late. It is time for this team to move on. The Giants also released fellow tackle Bobby Hart this offseason after he refused to play in the team’s final game. This entire Giants offensive line may look  different in 2018.

In a shallow tackle class, Chukwuma Okorafor is still somehow getting overlooked. He has first round traits that should entice teams. In this mock draft he falls into the second round behind Connor Williams, Orlando Brown, and Mike McGlinchey. Okorafor may end up as the best of the bunch.

After starting playing football in 2010 when he arrived in the United States, he was a big time grab for the Western Michigan coaching staff as a recruit. He has improved every season in college, earning All-American buzz as a senior after two years as the team’s left tackle. Okorafor is a long and strong tackle at 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds.

Despite the short time playing football, he has developed into a solid pass and run blocker with good hands and a base that an NFL team can maximize. There will be concerns with his instincts and “nasty streak” but that should not scare a team away, especially the Giants who are desperate for help at the position.
