2018 NFL Mock Draft: Jets fly high with Baker Mayfield
By Brad Weiss
A year after making to the playoffs, the Detroit Lions saw themselves fall just short in 2017. Still, the team is headed in the right direction, and has a new head coach calling the shots. Former New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is the new man in charge, and should bring an incredible wealth of knowledge to the team on the defensive side of the ball.
When it comes to Patricia’s first draft pick as head coach of the team, he is likely to go defense. One area where the Lions need help is on the edges and a player like Arden Key from LSU could really help them this late in round one. The Lions have already bolstered the interior of their defensive line by franchise tagging Ezekiel Ansah, so it is obvious that being strong up front is a priority to this current regime.
Key has had to battle some injury issues during his time with the Tigers, but he should be a solid player at the next level. He has the kind of motor that you look for in an edge rusher, and although he can sometimes take plays off, he should do well by having Patricia as his head coach. This Lions team is so close to being a perennial playoff team, and this offseason is going to go a long way in making sure they stay the course.
