Baker Mayfield. 6. player. 30. . Quarterback. Oklahoma

Heading into the 2017 NFL season, many believed that the New York Jets would be picking a lot earlier than No. 6 in the following draft. The team basically traded away most of their veteran talent, leaving the team with a lot of unknown players at some very important positions. One position was quarterback, where they brought in veteran Josh McCown, who ended up having a career-year in his first season in New York.

While the team may decide to bring McCown back in some capacity next season, the fact is that they need to make a long-term decision at the quarterback position. While there are plenty of signal-callers in this draft class, none of them are more polarizing than Baker Mayfield. Coming off a Heisman Trophy winning season, Mayfield has had a lot of eyes on him leading up to the draft, and just may end up being the best of the bunch.

There have been comparisons to Johnny Manziel when it comes to Mayfield, but he could not be further from the kind of player, and person Manziel was. Mayfield is the kind of player people want to go to war with, and the Jets have not had a true franchise quarterback since Joe Namath. He would instantly bring credibility to the position, while showing the kind of passion that enabled him to go from walk-on to Heisman Trophy winner during his storied college career.
