During the 2017 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears knew who they wanted to take in the first round. In fact, the team traded with the San Francisco 49ers to move up just one spot, where they selected University of North Carolina signal-caller Mitchell Trubisky. With their franchise quarterback in place, the Bears can focus their attention in April on bringing in some weapons to surround him with, and they may decide to go that route with the eighth overall pick.

When it comes to the wide receiver position in the 2018 NFL Draft, there is no better prospect than Calvin Ridley from Alabama. During his time with the Crimson Tide, Ridley has helped the team to two national titles, and was an explosive player despite playing in a run-first offense. Ridley has the talent to take the lid off a defense, and with Trubisky’s big arm, this could be quite the combination.

Trubisky had really no talent to throw to last season, as both Kevin White and Cameron Meredith were lost early due to injury. In addition, star tight end Zach Miller was also injured, as a knee injury ended his season in the second half. Ridley is a nice start to bringing in weapons for Trubisky, but they need to do much more than just bring him in one pair of hands if the Bears want to be competitive next season.
