Richard Sherman free agency rumors: 5 potential landing spots
1. Oakland Raiders
The Raiders are already re-shaping their secondary, with David Amerson cut in early February and Sean Smith headed that direction amid on and off-field issues to go with an $8.5 million cap hit that can be cleared from their books. With a shade over $18.1 million in salary cap space right now, which puts them in the bottom half of the league, Oakland can really use the significant chunk cutting Smith would give them.
Sherman and Raiders head coach Jon Gruden would be an interesting mix of personalities. But Sherman was born in California and went to Stanford, so Oakland could be an appealing landing spot for him when it’s all said and done.
There was some buzz last year about Sherman and Marshawn Lynch being a package deal for a new team, with the Raiders the most obvious landing spot. Lynch of course signed with the Raiders, and Gruden said he expects “Beast Mode” to be back for a second season in 2018.

It will take a bit of salary cap trimming, at least ideally, so as not to hamstring their ability to add other pieces this offseason. But the Raiders could make room for Sherman, and they can definitely use him as a starting corner.
