If you say Giddy Potts three times in a mirror, a sad Michigan State fan will appear. This was actually a toss-up between Potts and Reggie Upshaw Jr. because both led Middle Tennessee to back-to-back first-round upsets over Big Ten teams in the 2016 and 2017 NCAA Tournaments.

Since Potts stood out slightly more than Upshaw Jr., I’m going to stick with him on this list even though he didn’t fare too well in the round of 32 in 2016.

Potts led No. 15 Middle Tennessee past No. 2 Michigan State in 2016 with 19 points and five rebounds on 3-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. He sparked the Blue Raiders’ offense and still haunts many Spartan fans’ nightmares.

The then-sophomore guard scored just nine points in the second round as Syracuse slashed the Blue Raiders, ending the Cinderella run.

In 2017, Potts did it again, leading the 12th-seeded Blue Raiders past No. 5 Minnesota with 15 points and five rebounds. Yet again, he struggled in the second round, not scoring a single point. Can he finally put a full tournament together in 2018? Nevertheless, he’s one of the best heroes in recent memory.
