FanDuel NBA 7-day stock report (Feb. 26 – Mar. 4): Who’s hot and who’s not?
Trending Up
Marcus Smart (BOS): Despite playing limited minutes against the Grizzlies and Hornets, Smart was over value in both contests. He finished the week with 27.7 fantasy points against the Rockets on Saturday. He’s been great since returning from injury, regaining his role as the backup point guard from Terry Rozier. As long as his salary remains at $5,000 or less, he’ll continue to be a solid value play.
Ben McLemore (MEM): McLemore has been over 30 fantasy points in his last two games. With Tyreke Evans out, McLemore has taken his place in the starting lineup and has thrived. The Grizzlies are playing their young guys right now, and with Evans unlikely to return next season, they’re giving McLemore a real shot at shooting guard. As long as he’s starting, they’ll need his scoring.
Dennis Smith Jr. (DAL): Smith Jr. was over value in all four games this week, capping things off with 40 fantasy points against the Pelicans. With Dallas looking towards the future, Smith Jr. should see the bulk of the usage moving forward. He’s going to be their lead point guard for the next 10-15 years and this last month can do a lot for his growth.
Trending Down
Joe Ingles (UTA): Ingles missed value in all three games this week. His salary has dipped, which could make him a solid value play moving forward. However, with Jae Crowder looking more like Boston Crowder instead of Cleveland Crowder, Ingles role going forward could be more minimized. Until his salary drops back into the $5,5000-$5,8000 range, he’ll be a guy who struggles to hit value.
Ish Smith (DET): Blake Griffin rediscovered his game in the last week, but Smith’s has gone off the rails. He missed value in all four games and averaged 10.8 fantasy points in the final three games of the week. That’s just dead money in your lineup. The Pistons do get the Cavaliers and their spotty defense on Monday. If Smith fails to impress in that one, he shouldn’t be added until he proves he can bounce back.
Rodney Hood (CLE): Thanks to J.R. Smith not being a fan of soup, Hood actually went over value against the Sixers. But as a scorer off the bench, he’s been a big fantasy disappointment since getting traded to Cleveland. His salary isn’t dropping enough to where he’s even a value play at this point. Unless he moves into the starting lineup or finds his rhythm, he’s not worth playing.
