Kyle Fuller rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
By Joe Schiller
2. New England Patriots
If Fuller is going to sign with a team, why not go with one of the best? It’s a player’s dream to play under Bill Belichick and Fuller could have that option. Not to mention, the Patriots are looking for help at the cornerback position heading into next season. It could be a fantastic match for both sides in this situation.
After investing in the secondary this offseason, the Patriots were surprisingly poor in that area. They finished the season ranked 30th in pass defense, giving up over 250 yards per game. Stephon Gillmore struggled and Malcolm Butler quickly wore out his welcome. Matt Patricia’s defense was exposed in the team’s Super Bowl loss. Belichick has seen enough and must get help this offseason.
Fuller is the immediate replacement to Butler in free agency. He’d start opposite to Gilmore on the outside in the secondary. The Patriots still haven’t found their defensive coordinator replacement but I’m sure they won’t mind one a young and talented cornerback addition. That’s a dream for any coach on the defensive side of the ball.
Belichick and company aren’t winning the salary cap battle but they’ve got five rings to show for it. If Fuller wants to win, New England makes a lot of sense. He can play alongside Tom Brady and have the opportunity to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Not many players can ever accomplish that goal.
Fuller has the opportunity and he’d fit perfectly with the Patriots next season.
