48. . Defensive Back. Florida State. Derwin James. 7. player

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will try to shake off a rough 2017 season, where they failed to live up to their preseason expectations. Coming off a solid 2016 that saw them finish at 9-7, many believed Jameis Winston would lead the team to the playoffs for the first time in a decade, but he battled inconsistent football and injuries. In 2018, they will have to navigate a tough NFC South, one that saw every other team make the playoffs last season.

In order to be competitive in the NFC South, you have to be good against the pass. If the Buccaneers want to get out of the cellar next season, they should spend their first round pick on a defensive back. Derwin James from Florida State is an absolute freak of an athlete, and he could be available when the Bucs pick at No. 7.

James played all over the secondary during his time with the Seminoles, and could be a key contributor in year one. He has the speed and size to play cornerback, but many believe he is the best safety this draft class has to offer. In addition, he was a great return man at Florida State, so he checks off a lot of boxes for the Bucs.
