After an underachieving year in Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers are moving on from Brent Grimes, who still has value in the right situation.

The idea of a 34-year-old cornerback still being viable in the NFL seems insane, but Brent Grimes is anything but a conventional player.Listed at 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds, Grimes has carved out a terrific 11-year career to this point, and a free agent once again, is looking for a new home.

Last year, the veteran played 13 games with the Buccaneers and logged three interceptions. In the four prior seasons, Grimes missed a total of one game and never had fewer than four picks. If nothing else, Grimes is reliable and one of the best turnover-creating corners in the game today.

Best fits

1. New England Patriots

With Malcolm Butler hitting the market, New England needs to find a replacement. We’ve seen nothing from Tom Brady to believe the window is closing soon for the Patriots, and adding veteran help on the boundary would be well-advised. Grimes isn’t going to command more than a one-year deal, making him a perfect fit in Foxborough.

2. Carolina Panthers

This would keep Grimes in the division, joining his third NFC South team this decade. The Panthers have some youngsters at corner in James Bradberry and Daryl Worley, and while the potential is there, Grimes could help bring them alongside. Additionally, Carolina should be focused on trying to make another run before Greg Olsen and Thomas Davis move on.

3. Baltimore Ravens

No team has more corners coming off serious injuries. The Ravens are trying to regroup after losing Jimmy Smith to a torn Achilles tendon, along with Tavon Young blowing out his knee in OTAs. Grimes would be a solid insurance policy and a nice fit alongside Tony Jefferson and Eric Weddle in the secondary.
