Will the Dolphins double-down with defensive back selections with their first two picks of the 2018 NFL Draft? It wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world. One guy that could be available to them at No. 42 in the early part of the second round would be Stanford Cardinal junior safety Justin Reid.

Reid played a ton in his three years with the Cardinal in the Pac-12. He registered 170 total tackles (104 solo, 66 assists), 14 pass breakups, 10.5 tackles for a loss of yardage, six interceptions, a forced fumble and a quarterback sack.

Reid was measured to be 6-foot-1, 204 pounds at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine. He ran a 4.4 40-yard dash and had a vertical jump of 36.5 inches. Though not as fast as Denzel Ward coming out of Ohio State, these two could make a dynamic pair in the Miami secondary for a long time playing alongside each other at cornerback and at safety.

Figuring out how Reid would coalesce with star safety Reshad Jones in the Miami defensive backfield remains to be seen. However, you can never have too much talent in the secondary. This is a passing driven league. Reid has displayed in college great tackling ability, as well as solid ball skills at safety.
