5th round

This draft class is heavy in big wide receivers and South Florida’s Marquez Valdes-Scantling is one name the 49ers could look at in the fifth round.

Valdes-Scantling (6-foot-4 and 206 pounds) ran a blazing 4.37 40-yard dash at the Combine last week and could become a valuable target in the red zone for Kyle Shanahan’s offense. He has massive hands and could be the team’s target if players like Auden Tate and Marcell Ateman are already off the board.

6th round

You can never have too much of a pass-rush and the Niners add their third player on the edge in this mock with the selection of Utah’s Kylie Fitts.

Fitts couldn’t stay healthy during his career with the Utes but his unique blend of size and speed make him worth a look in the sixth round. The team is familiar with the Utah program after selecting teammate Pita Taumoepenu in the sixth last year, so Fitts “fits the bill,” if you will, again in the sixth.

7th round

Depending on how fast cornerbacks fly off the board in the first round, the Niners could be looking to upgrade the secondary much earlier than the seventh round. For now, however, they take Penn State’s Christian Campbell with their second-to-last pick in this draft.

Campbell has nice length (6-foot-1 and 194 pounds) and is a player who could develop in the Niners’ dime packages. If the Niners choose to address cornerback in free agency, look for them to take a flyer late on day three on a player like Campbell.

Oklahoma State’s Zachary Crabtree is a massive tackle prospect (6-foot-7 and 310 pounds) who the Niners could take a look at on day three.

He spent last season as the right tackle for the Cowboys, protecting potential first-round pick Mason Rudolph, but still has a long ways before he’s considered ready to start at the NFL level. Adding Crabtree in the seventh gives John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan more depth along the offensive line that will be a key factor to the team’s success in 2018.
