WWE Fastlane 2018 review: What we learned, takeaways, future projections
By Luke Norris
Natalya & Carmella defeated Becky Lynch & Naomi
What we learned: We didn’t really learn anything here, did we? This match was more or less thrown together for the sake of getting these four women some TV time. I’m really surprised that this bout wasn’t on the kickoff show but with nothing really to take its place at this point, we got what we got.
I wasn’t expecting much from this match but I will admit that it was a little better than I thought it would be, at least at the start. Things started off nicely with some nice back-and-forth action before Carmella and Natalya took control. The duo worked the classic tag team formula of isolating Naomi and I enjoyed how this was done. They worked some quick tags, cutting the ring in half and they looked like a real tag team for a few minutes.
Naturally, Becky Lynch would eventually get the hot tag and run wild for a minute but that’s when things went south. The final minutes of this match were really sloppy and featured a number of botched spots. The heel duo picked up the win as Carmella got the pin on Becky Lynch, which was probably the right call.
What’s next: The reason I say Carmella getting the pin was the right call is because she’s really the only one of these four with anything important happening, namely her Money in the Bank briefcase, which did play a small part in this match. I don’t know how that’s going to play out with another big name from the women’s division probably joining SmackDown Live soon but at least it keeps her relevant. But that won’t keep her and the other three from this match from participating in some sort of multi-woman match at WrestleMania, most likely on the kickoff show.
