WWE Fastlane 2018 review: What we learned, takeaways, future projections

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match
The Usos (c) vs. The New Day ended in a no contest
What we learned: We learned here that even after all the times they’ve been in the ring together, The New Day and The Usos still know how to put on an entertaining and original match, even if they didn’t get to finish it.
After what I think was the feud of the year in 2017, it was hard to know exactly what to expect from these two teams this time around. I was highly confident that they could still give the fans something new and spectacular and that’s what happened…at least for a while. The promos leading to this match were spectacular as some of the fun and games were thrown out the window for the sake of some real talk and that led right into the match as Jimmy Uso and Xavier Woods (it was Woods and Kingston this time around) talked some smack before brawling to kick things off.
The pace was pretty frantic from the start and after Kofi Kingston hit a few of his signature spots on Jey Uso, things took a really fun turn as Jey mocked Kofi by hitting a boom drop. He then went for Kofi’s Trouble in Paradise spot but was unsuccessful. The champs hit Midnight Hour but the tide turned as Woods got back into the mix and like The Usos do constantly, Xavier hit superkick after superkick. Really fun stuff here.
Kofi then hit an Uso-type splash from the top rope and he and Woods were then going to attempt The Double Uce but they were knocked to the floor and that’s where the match stopped as The Bludgeon Brothers hit the ringside area and obliterated both teams to give us a no-contest finish. Harper and Rowan destroyed everyone, including a very nasty-looking spot to Woods on the steps.
I figured this would happen at some point but I was really hoping that they would wait until Tuesday night to do this, or at least until the match was over. This was turning into another instant classic from The Usos and The New Day, especially with each team stealing the other’s moves, but it was cut short by the attack and we know what’s coming next.
What’s next: The attack is obviously leading to yet another Triple Threat bout at WrestleMania, of which we’ve already got a few lined up. The Miz is set to take on Finn Balor and Seth Rollins for the Intercontinental Championship and the earlier setup of Orton, Roode and Jinder is there as well. I still think there’s a chance that Sheamus and Cesaro end up taking on multiple teams as well and now we’re going to get The Usos vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers. But at least Jimmy and Jey finally get their WrestleMania match. It will be fun to watch The New Day and The Usos team up a little bit in that match to try and get the advantage on Harper and Rowan.
