Second Round

Defensive line is usually an area where Baltimore dominates. No, it isn’t a primary need for the Ravens, but it will be hard to pass up some of the promising defensive line prospects that will be hanging around the draft board where they are picking in the second round. The pick here at No. 52 might be Stanford Cardinal defensive lineman Harrison Phillips.

Phillips is 6-foot-4, 307 pounds. He might have only ran a 5.21 40-yard dash at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. However, the guy is strong, as he put up 42 reps at 225 pounds on the bench press. The guy could have some versatility along the defensive line at the next level. Baltimore would certainly like that.

Phillips played sparingly his first two years in Palo Alto, as he only appeared in five combined games for the Cardinal in 2014 and 2015. He did step it up big time as an upperclassman. Phillips would leave Stanford with 153 total tackles (62 solo, 91 assists), 29.0 tackles for a loss of yardage, 16.5 quarterback sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two pass breakups.

The production Phillips had in his last two years in college speaks for itself. He had over 7.0 quarterback sacks and 10.0 tackles for a loss of yardage in 2016 and 2017. Consistency will be key with him. Should Baltimore hit this pick right, Phillips could be the monster the Ravens need on that defensive line of theirs for years to come.
