The mystery of Steph Curry’s ankle problems may have been solved.

Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has had problems with his ankle this season, and the culprit may be his new Curry 5 shoe from Under Armour.

The shoe, which was released today, goes for $130 (pretty reasonable), but the major surprise of the shoe, other than its relatively low cost, is the fact that the show has no high ankle support.

You would think that a player who has had ankle issues over his career would make it clear to the Under Armour developers that his show would need ankle support; but no, this shoe doesn’t have it, and that has some Twitter users a little miffed:

To be honest, Under Armour is a company that’s constantly trying to find itself. It wants to be the next Nike or Addidas so bad, but the company fails at just being what it’s built to be: a quite inferior athletic clothing company.

Yes, we’ve seen their ultra-macho commercials, and their logo was a staple at every hockey arena from the NHL to the little leagues, but just because it markets itself well doesn’t mean that it’s a quality athletic clothing company. Under Armour is know to make some pretty underwhelming shoes, and the new Curry 5 proves that point.

When you look at the shoe, the one words that may pop into your mind may be “no frills,” and you wouldn’t be wrong in that assessment. Functional? Maybe. Stylish? Not even the dads who liked Stpeh’s previous shoes would say that.

The lack of high ankle supports only rounds out just how miserable the basketball shoe has become. Once upon a time, no one would be caught dead with basketball shoes without ankle supports. Might as well play in flip flops, many would say. This is a new age, however, and it’s pretty depressing.
