5 worst signings of NFL free agency so far
1. Ryan Grant to the Ravens
Every other contract on this list at least has some form of defense. This one is without the clause.
The Baltimore Ravens were desperate to land a wide receiver, hoping to release Jeremy Maclin and Mike Wallace. Instead, general manager Ozzie Newsome went out and overpaid in an absurd way, paying four years and $29 million for former Washington Redskins wide receiver Ryan Grant.
Grant, 27, has 84 catches for 985 yards over his four-year career, highlighted by 573 yards and four touchdowns last year. In essence, Grant projects as third receiver on a decent team, but was paid to produce at a higher level. It would be stunning if this contract doesn’t end up in the garbage bin within two years.

The Ravens seem to be denying their reality. Baltimore needs to rebuild the team, selling off veteran parts to get ready for a youth movement. The Joe Flacco contract is a disaster and an albatross, but that isn’t a reason to add more expensive receivers (Wallace and Maclin being previous examples) who are destined to underperform.
