Round 2 – Pick 36

Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU

One of the deepest positions in this draft is the wide receiver position. It also happens to be one of the worst spots on the Colts roster. Outside of star receiver T.Y. Hilton, there is a bunch of late round draft picks and cast-offs. Indianapolis should dip into the talent pool at receiver early to secure some help for Hilton and quarterback Andrew Luck.

The perfect player opposite Hilton for this team is Courtland Sutton of SMU. Hilton brings speed in a small package. Sutton showed some speed but he is a big body receiver who can win in contested catches. His ability to run after the catch would also be a huge plus.

A knock on Sutton entering the draft process was his long speed. He was able to put that to rest with a strong 4.54 40-yard dash at the combine. This situation with the Colts would fit Sutton who is best served as a second fiddle in an offense early in his career. Coaches will need to work with him on route running and separation. He has as much upside as any other receiver in this draft. Teams could take a chance on him late in round one, especially if he puts on another strong performance at his pro-day.
