Round 4 – Pick 104

Rashaad Penny, RB, San Diego State

The Colts have been riding the ageless wonder Frank Gore for years. With Gore’s release it leaves last year’s fifth round pick Marlon Mack as the leading man. They will likely find a veteran but should also look towards a deep running back class.

A forgotten name in this talented class is Rashaad Penny of San Diego State. Last year Penny led the nation in rushing with over 2300 yards. He added 23 touchdowns for the Aztecs and was fifth in the Heisman voting.

There is a chance he slides into round three but the top of round four should be his floor. He is a talented player who proved he can handle a heavy workload in college. His lack of long speed will shy teams away earlier in the draft despite his production. However Penny knows how to make yards out of almost any run. That is a skill he will need behind a porous offensive line in in Indianapolis.

Penny and Mack would make a good combination given each of their skill sets. Penny is a strong runner who can break arm tackles and has non-stop feet. Mack can be the big play hitter who helps in the passing game.
