Bargain drivers (salary below $8,000)

Alex Bowman ($7,600) – Still looking for his first top-10 finish of the season, but Bowman also hasn’t finished outside the top 20 yet. This might be a little expensive for someone you’re hoping to see a top-15 finish out of, but he also has positional upside since he’s starting 28th.

Daniel Suarez ($7,000) – Hasn’t been as reliable as you’d like so far in 2018, but starting 30th gives him a ton of potential to pick up position points. Speed doesn’t look like a problem for the JGR cars so is worth a shot if you can spare the salary. Finished seventh in his lone California Cup Series start.

Paul Menard ($6,800) – Was Mr. Reliable among the bargain drivers until he almost finished dead last in Phoenix. Menard does have a tendency to get caught up in wrecks, but he managed some top-10s at Fontana even when he was in the third RCR car, and the Ford he has this year looks faster than those Chevys he used to drive, so he once again is worth considering.

William Byron ($6,600) – The youngest Hendrick driver has looked every bit the rookie at times, but he comes into California off his best finish in 2018, and he finished fifth in his XFINITY Series start at this track last year. Starting 29th means even finishing 15th will earn you 14 extra points.
