Kansas City Royals: Mike Moustakas

It was only three years ago that the Kansas City Royals won the World Series. It was their second straight year appearing in the World Series. Since then, times have been tough in Kansas City. They’re starting to look like a team in desperate need of a rebuild.

Their starting rotation isn’t what it once was, and their bullpen could end up being one of the worst in the majors. Their lineup will also more than likely leave a little bit to be desired. Especially losing homegrown star Eric Hosmer to free agency.

But they did manage to re-sign third baseman Mike Moustakas, who’s been with the team for his whole career. A two-time all-star, Moustakas will help man the hot corner for Royals in 2018. He’ll also likely get some time as a designated hitter, as the team has expressed their desire to get Chelsor Cuthbert more playing time.

Moustakas, 29, was a huge part of Kansas City’s 2015 season, posting a career-best slash line of .284/.348/.470. In May of 2016, he tore his ACL in his left knee. He missed nearly the entire season.

He couldn’t quite match his terrific 2015 season, but he bounced back nicely in 2017, earning an all-star appearance and the American League Comeback Player of the Year award. He had a career-high 38 home runs and 85 RBI while slugging .521.

The Royals aren’t going anywhere this season, but it will be a nice consolation for fans to see a familiar face leading the squad.
