4. Green Bay Packers

New Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has brought a new approach to free agency, with big moves to sign tight end Jimmy Graham and defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson. They also made an offer sheet to cornerback Kyle Fuller, which the Chicago Bears quickly matched.

The Packers also made a tough decision to cut wide receiver Jordy Nelson, and safety Morgan Burnett is gone to the Pittsburgh Steelers as perhaps the best available player at the position. A potential run at Tyrann Mathieu after he was cut by the Arizona Cardinals did not really come to fruition. But that the idea was even deemed possible shows Gutekunst is the anti-Ted Thompson with his approach to the free agent market.

Green Bay still has some areas to address in the subsequent waves of free agency, if they can find some fits. But Gutekunst seems sure to make an attempt to fill those needs, rather than rely on the draft as the only way to do so and add some depth. The window to win another Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers under center will end before too long. Gutekunst seems to recognize that in a way Thompson would not or could not, along with the subsequent need to add some name-brand talent.
