3. Jermell Charlo (30-0, 15 KOs)

Jermell Charlo might seem like a surprise on this list. Most think that he’s the lesser Charlo twin and that his brother, Jermall, has more star potential. He might not be as naturally talented as his brother, but he’s boxing in a less competitive division than Jermall. That gives him the easier path to success.

Jermell fights as a super welterweight while Jermall fights as a middleweight. Jermall is incredibly talented, but the middleweight division is loaded with superstars. The super welterweight division looks amateurish compared to the middleweight division.

As a super welterweight, Jermell’s strongest competition is Jarrett Hurd and Erislandy Lara. Hurd and Lara fight in April, so Jermell only needs to beat one of the two to control the super welterweight division.

Jermell would match up nicely against Hurd or Lara. He has a size advantage over Lara, and he is a much better boxer and athlete than Hurd.

Jermell looked phenomenal in his last fight in 2017 when he knocked out Erickson Lubin in one round. He doesn’t have the record of a knockout puncher, but he has stopped his last four opponents in a row. His power is trending up.

Jermall is the bigger and more powerful Charlo twin. He has a 77 percent KO rating and stands one inch taller than Jermell. His stats wouldn’t look as good if he fought the best the middleweight division has to offer.

Canelo Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs are the three best middleweights. Jermall wants a fight with Jacobs and he might get it soon. He wouldn’t be the favorite in that fight.

If he did get past Jacobs, then he would still have to deal with either Alvarez or Golovkin. Jermall isn’t on their level yet. He might beat one of these three boxers, but he can’t beat all three. He would take too much damage on the way.

Jermall might be the best Charlo, but Jermell is better positioned to have the most success.
