Here’s how every MLB team will finish in 2018
Chicago White Sox: 68 wins
- Baseball Prospectus: 71 wins
- FanGraphs: 66 wins
In the first year of their full-scale rebuild, the White Sox won 67 games, managing to stay out of the 100-loss club many had pegged them for. The front office is sticking to its plan, and did not add any major names this winter except for catcher Welington Castillo.
Expectations are and should be low for the White Sox again this year, but they are building towards an exciting future on the South Side of Chicago. Yoan Moncada will finally play a full season in the big leagues, and brings five-tool potential. Lucas Giolito will also make his full-season debut in the rotation after making seven impressive starts for the White Sox in the second half last year.
Giolito and Moncada are the two most exciting prospects to watch at the start of the year, but be on the lookout for Michael Kopech and Eloy Jimenez later in the year. Kopech looks like a younger Noah Syndergaard, while Jimenez already has the raw power to match any hitter in the big leagues.
Conclusion: The White Sox should surprise and win more than 68 games. It will still be a losing year, but better than last. Moncada will form a dynamic middle of the order with Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia. Wins should also be easier to come by against the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals, who are starting their own rebuilds.
