NFL power rankings: Vikings, Eagles fight for top spot

17. Buffalo Bills
What do you do when you’re the Buffalo Bills after finally ending a 17-year playoff drought? Completely revamp your roster. I actually wouldn’t go as far to say that but the Bills made some significant changes this offseason but for the right reasons.
No more Tyrod Taylor but AJ McCarron takes over the starting duties for the foreseeable future. The Bills may have been the winners signing a free agent quarterback. They didn’t have to overpay one bit, handing McCarron just $10 million over two-years. Based on the Cordy Glenn trade that moved them up to No. 12 in the first round, there’s good reason to believe a rookie quarterback will be added to the mix come April. The defense saw significant upgrades with Trent Murphy and Star Lotulelei added to the mix. I like the fit for both players, who become immediate starters.
However, there are still questions to be answered. Eric Wood’s sudden retirement has left a gaping hole at center that the Bills have still yet to fill. I’m not sure Russell Bodine is the answer even after not missing a single game in four seasons with the Bengals. His play has been extremely inconsistent and the Pro Football Focus grades were telling.
It’s hard to say how the Bills will fare in 2018 but the division is still out of grabs. The most realistic route to the postseason is through a Wild-Card berth again but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the same results as last season.
