NFL power rankings: Vikings, Eagles fight for top spot

15. Los Angeles Chargers
They finished at just 9-7 but the Los Angeles Chargers were one of the NFL’s hottest teams heading into the finals weeks of the 2017 season. An 0-4 start hindered any chances of a postseason berth but the dominance on both sides of the ball showed us exactly how good this team can be when firing on all cylinders.
Phillip Rivers enters penultimate years of his career but is still one of top producing quarterbacks under center. He lead the league’s top passing attack in 2017, averaging just shy of 280 yards per game. Kennan Allen wasn’t the only one to thank for that production, the boys up front played a huge part. Rivers was the least sacked quarterback, going down just 18 times. An already impressive offensive line got even better this offseason as Mike Pouncey slots in at center on a two-year deal.
The Chargers have solid units on both sides of the ball. Melvin Gordon and Allen lead the offensive production while Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram are two wrecking balls up front. Suring up the defensive interior with a rookie like Vita Vea or Maurice Hurst will solidify one of the best front-sevens in the NFL next season.
While they’re ranked just slightly behind the Chiefs, the Chargers are a surprise team that could win the AFC West this season. This is an unstoppable team when they’re playing at a consistent level.
