NFL power rankings: Vikings, Eagles fight for top spot
By Joe Schiller
12. Kansas City Chiefs
Alex Smith may be in Washington but the Chiefs still believe they’ve got the tools to make a Super Bowl run, at least that’s how general manager Brett Veach is acting this offseason. One of the hottest teams at the start of last season exited the Wild-Card round with disgust but the arrow is pointing in the right direction heading into the 2018 season.
The offense sees two new people in charge with Mahomes under center and Eric Bieniemy taking over for Matt Nagy. Mahomes is in dreamland as a second-year quarterback. He’s got just about every weapon imaginable. The NFL’s leading rusher in Kareem Hunt returns while Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce are both coming off 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Veach didn’t stop there, signing Sammy Watkins as another explosive threat along with re-signing De’Anthony Thomas. With Mahomes arm talent, this has the making for one of the top scoring offenses next season.
Trading Marcus Peters will come back to haunt Kansas City but they filled the void best they could with Kendall Fuller and David Amerson. Eric Berry returns off a torn Achilles and there’s confidence the secondary can eventually rework itself.
Can Andy Reid finally overcome the playoff hump and take the Chiefs to the promise land? If the roster has anything to say about it, he’s got no excuses.
