NFL power rankings: Vikings, Eagles fight for top spot
By Joe Schiller
11. Tennessee Titans
It was a daring move to fire head coach Mike Mularkey after leading his team to an AFC Divisional round berth, but it was the right decision to make. Bringing in Mike Vrabel from Houston might have been the best head coaching move and the Titans have followed it up with a strong offseason to go along with it.
Jon Robinson only made four signings but they were all substantial and provide immediate impacts on the field this season. DeMarco Murray is out but Dion Lewis is in on a very reasonable contract if you’re comparing it to what Jerick McKinnon got in San Francisco. Lewis is the perfect compliment to starter Derrick Henry and gives Marcus Mariota a pass-catching threat out of the backfield. Malcolm Butler was the splash signing and while the front office may have overpaid, he teams up with former teammate Logan Ryan at the corner spot.
Mariota’s health has been an issue and l love the move bringing in Josh Kline as an insurance policy on the offense line. He’s only 28-years old and comes off a solid 2017 season up front with the Patriots.
The Titans relied on a top-10 defense last season and were ultimately held back by the lack of offensive production. That’s going to completely change with new offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur working with Mariota. If LaFleur can bring the same kind of success that he had in Los Angeles, this team’s ceiling is far past the first round of the playoffs.
