NFL power rankings: Vikings, Eagles fight for top spot
By Joe Schiller
1. Philadelphia Eagles
The champions stay on the top post-free agency. Coming into the offseason with one of the worst cap situations, Howie Roseman and the Eagles’ front office still managed to pull in a ton of talent. Trading for Michael Bennett bolstered an already dominant front-seven and re-signing Nigel Bradham to a five-year deal is the icing on the cake. Haloti Ngata and Corey Nelson are two under-the-radar signings that provide even more depth for Jim Schwartz.
No one questioned the look of the Eagles’ roster in 2017, new additions make this team even better. For the rest of the league, that’s a scary thought. It’s quickly becoming an arms race in the NFC but the Eagles still reign supreme for now. The insurance of keeping Nick Foles is absolutely crucial as Carson Wentz continues his rehab off a torn ACL. Once he returns, it feels like the sky is the limit for this team.
Next: One reason each team can win Super Bowl 53
The Eagles are in a very comfortable position heading into the NFL draft. As they continue to put the pieces together it’s put the team in very comfortable position to repeat as Super Bowl champions. That’s a true testament to how quickly Roseman has rebuilt this team from the bottom of the NFC East.
The question is, can they do what very teams have done and return a second-straight Lombardi trophy to Philly? The city may be fully destroyed at that point.
