The Washington Capitals take on on the Detroit Red Wings in a rivalry battle where both teams need a victory.

Nearing the end of the 2017-18 NHL season, the Detroit Red Wings have not played their best hockey, to say the least. They are playing like they don’t have much to play for — and they don’t. Though the Red Wings recently dropped three in a row, they can play spoiler in this game against the Washington Capitals.

On Tuesday, the Red Wings ended their losing streak with a 5-4 shootout victory against the Philadelphia Flyers. Its been a tough road as of late for the Red Wings.

The Capitals are coming off a 4-1 victory against the Dallas Stars. The victory gives them a four-point lead in the Metropolitan Division. They are on pace for another division title.

Washington is dangerous especially as the playoffs approach. John Carlson, who scored the winning goal on Tuesday, will be hard to contain. Carlson, at 61 points, is tied for the lead among the league’s defensemen.

The Red Wings currently sit sixth from the bottom of the NHL standings and look to miss the Stanley Cup playoffs the second year in the row.
