2018 NBA Mock Draft: Where did the prospects go?
People will try to tell you that Aggies coach Billy Kennedy flipped his season around by realizing how much talent he had in his frontcourt. You look them back in the face and tell them that despite the fact Williams might get drafted in the lottery, his inconsistency is partially what got the team in this seventh seed mess in the first place.
Though Texas A&M can blame backcourt injuries for quite a few of its problems, they entered the tournament with enough guards and wings to manufacture spacing, considering how much attention its bigs deserve when they’re playing well. And through two games, Kennedy’s insistence on running the team through those bigs has made him look very smart.
Williams has averaged 10.5 points and 13.5 rebounds over the first two rounds. His defensive rebounding has stamped out one of the easiest ways teams control tournament games — pace and size. The Aggies have out-rebounded their opponents by 30 during the tournament, and neither of their opponents scored more than 69 points.
All scouts need to understand Williams’ impact in this tournament is this clip. He’s really been doing it all in a way we haven’t seen all year.
