2018 NBA Mock Draft: Where did the prospects go?
With Bruce Brown declaring his candidacy for the NBA draft this week, attention now turns toward Walker, who was the last man standing for Miami and nearly took them to the second round of the NCAA tournament before bowing out.
Walker’s .527 true shooting percentage and .346 3-point percentage paint the picture of a better efficiency ceiling most would assume based on how he plays and the season he put together as a freshman. Walker scored 12 points on 12 shots in the first round of the tournament, showing that he still has a long way to go as far as shot selection, game management and control go.
At Miami, walker paled in comparison to smart, skilled guards like Trae Young or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but he also provides different value than them as a slasher and finisher. You could imagine Walker’s game some day looking like that of Goran Dragic, with an athleticism advantage not available for Dragic.
Defensively, Walker has yet to fulfill his potential whatsoever. He is inattentive and unengaged defending great scorers, making certain comparisons I’ve seen attached to him, including Victor Oladipo and Jimmy Butler, look absolutely silly. That said, the combine will show us exactly how long Walker is, but he certainly looks the part of a versatile modern defender.
Philadelphia needs a secondary guard next to Ben Simmons, and Walker fits the mold.
