Third Round

The Raiders may still have Marshawn Lynch and added Doug Martin in the backfield, but there are too many good tailbacks to pass up on one in the upcoming draft. Given that Lynch and Martin are in the back-nine of their careers, the Raiders might want to target a potential bell-cow at No. 75 in Auburn’s Kerryon Johnson.

Johnson was the 2017 SEC Offensive Player of the Year for the SEC West champion Tigers. As a true junior, Johnson had 285 carries for 1,391 yards and 18 touchdowns. He had an additional 24 catches for 194 yards and two touchdowns. In his college career at Auburn, Johnson had 519 carries for 2,494 yards, and 32 touchdowns. He had 55 receptions for 478 yards and two touchdowns.

Johnson is 5-foot-11, 213 pounds. He has 32 1/2 inch arms and 9 3/4 hands. While he did not run at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, he had a 40-inch vertical jump and a 126-inch broad jump. Johnson’s skill set should translate well to the NFL, and perhaps right away.

Obviously, bringing about Johnson would mean the end for either Jalen Richard or DeAndre Washington in Oakland. However, both do have a versatility on third down that Lynch and Martin do not have. If Johnson can emerge as a three-down back, that could help him get early playing time for the Silver and Black.
