Round 5 – Pick 171

Holton Hill, CB, Texas

Before diving into these day three picks, it should be noted that there is very little chance Dallas uses all ten draft picks. They will likely be wheeling and dealing in day two to move around the board.

In this scenario they have to use all ten picks. With their lone fifth round pick, they grab someone for depth in the defensive backfield. Holton Hill of Texas fits the billing for what the new defensive backs coach is looking for in corners. He is tall and long. At 6-foot-3 Hill will be bigger than most receivers he matches up against. There is an argument to be made that he is a second round corner. Off the field concerns will push him down or off boards completely. If a team is comfortable keeping him in Texas, he could be a steal for Dallas’s already young secondary.

Round 6 – Pick 192

KC McDermott, G, Miami

Dallas’ new offensive lineman likely pushed the need for a guard well down the list. This is a strong class but it is a bit top heavy. Dallas struck out with the first two picks and the value simply was not there until the sixth. KC McDermott is a versatile piece who was a starter for years at Miami. He played tackle and guard and even can play center in a pinch. McDermott adds depth to a Dallas line that showed it needs it a year ago.

Round 6 – Pick 193

Logan Woodside, QB, Toledo

The Cowboys enter 2018 with only Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush as quarterbacks. Prescott is the clear starter. Rush has caught the coaches’ eyes and showed promise in limited preseason work. Grabbing a third quarterback late in day three is a luxury a team with ten picks can afford. Logan Woodside of Toledo is a tenacious player who propelled the Rockets offense to new heights. The traits Woodside brings to the table center around intelligence and accuracy, key traits for a back-up quarterback. He is very reminiscent of now Cowboys’ quarterback coach, Kellen Moore.

Round 6 – Pick 208

Joe Ostman, EDGE, Central Michigan

Dallas has Lawrence back and drafted Taco Charlton a year ago. If Randy Gregory is re-instated a former weakness into a possible strength. I also subscribe to the draft philosophy that every draft should feature a pass rusher. Dallas’ could grab the nations’ sack leader in Joe Ostman of Central Michigan. He turned his combine snub into an exceptional pro day. Ostman is not an elite athlete but a technician off the edge. He will give the team a complimentary pass rusher and depth with some development.

Round 7 – Pick 236

Justin Crawford, RB, West Virginia

Ezekiel Elliott owns the Cowboys backfield when healthy. His back-up is Rod Smith, who proved down the stretch to be a capable player and compliment to Elliott. Grabbing a running back late could be a position Dallas takes with Alfred Morris unlikely to return. Justin Crawford of West Virginia would fit the bill. A strong back with good patience, Crawford is a grinder of yards. Dallas’ blocking should help him hit the next level and show off some of his athleticism. He would be a practice squad candidate unless he impressed with some special teams skills.
