MORGANTOWN, WV – OCTOBER 22: Joseph Noteboom

Round 5, Pick 138 — Joseph Noteboom OL TCU

Some teams could value Noteboom well above this draft slot. His athletic ability, size, and length suggest a player who can be a quality starter tackle in the league. Those are rare commodities in the league. But Noteboom doesn’t win consistently enough and shows sloppy technique at times. That said, if he’s available at this point in the draft for the Packers, it’s a no-brainer developmental pick for a player with Noteboom’s physical gifts.

Round 5, Pick 172 — Bilal Nichols DL Delaware

Nichols has the size and frame teams covet in the NFL, but remains raw as a prospect and doesn’t play hard consistently. He needs to get stronger and develop a pass rush repertoire, but Nichols has enough athletic ability to possess upside. He’s already a solid run defender and could develop into a good all-around interior lineman and he fits the athletic profile the Packers prefer at the position. Getting a rotation-level player with upside at this point in the draft is ideal.

Round 5, Pick 174 — Kalen Ballage RB Arizona State

After moving Ty Montgomery to running back and drafting three running backs last year, this may seem like a strange pick. But Montgomery will likely spend more time at receiver this season and Aaron Jones, despite his success and dynamic ability last season, struggled with injuries. Devante Mays looked out of depth in limited run last season and Ballage has the kind of size/speed combination to be a dynamic NFL back in the right role. His closest comp according to Player Profiler is also former Packers rusher James Starks.
