2018 NFL Mock Draft: Sam Darnold goes to Browns
By Brad Weiss
The Detroit Lions paid a lot of money to Matthew Stafford last offseason, and the expectation was he would lead them back to the playoffs. Well, they fell just short of that goal, but it definitely was not for a lack of effort on his part. The Lions need to get more playmakers involved on the offensive side of the ball, and they may end up selecting a running back with the No. 20 overall pick this April.
While he is no Saquon Barkley, Derrius Guice would likely be the top running back in this class had it not been for the Penn State back. Guice can do it all on the football field, and would be that three-down back the Lions have been missing for so long. Detroit has the weapons on both sides of the ball to be competitive in the NFC North next season, but they need a back like Guice to really make this offense tick.
The NFC North is going to be tough, as the Packers will get Aaron Rodgers back, and the Vikings are coming off an appearance in the NFC Championship Game. In addition, the Chicago Bears got a lot better this offseason, so we could have an NFC South from last year scenario on our hands. Guice gives this team an edge at running back they have not had in a long time, and you know fans of the Lions love them some elite running back talent (see Barry Sanders.)
