It’s been an action-packed Opening Day full of home runs, strikeouts and fan bets.

Opening day 2018 has now featured multiple social media bets from fans. Earlier in the day, we saw a Chicago Cubs blogger pledge to dive into the frigid waters of Lake Michigan if center fielder Ian Happ hit a leadoff homer. Well, he did and the fan was forced to take the cold plunge.

Now, we’ve got another baseball fan who made an ill-advised bet about Noah Syndergaard’s season debut. This particular fan promised to dye his dark hair blonde if Sydnergaard managed to strike out at least 10 batters.

What was this guy thinking? Syndergaard is perhaps the best strikeout pitcher in the game right now. He’s averaged at least 10 strikeouts per nine innings in all three of his major league seasons. The guy can throw 100 miles per hour. Despite giving up four earned runs in six innings of work, Syndergaard got the job done, fanning exactly 10 batters against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 25-year-old Mets ace took to Twitter to remind the fan, Jake, to fulfill his promise.

If the mighty Thor tells you to make good on your bet, it’s probably in your best interest to do so. The fan shared a photo of a texting exchange with his mom, where she replied: “They say blondes have more fun!”

Baseball continues to be the best. Where else do you get awesome moments like this? Syndergaard has been one of the most exciting starting pitchers in the league for the last few years. It’s refreshing to see the game’s young stars flash their personalities like this, too. Good luck as a blonde, Jake!
